Why was the Roman Empire so successful?

Hi my name is Xochil and I am here to talk about The Roman Empire. I ask myself, why is the Roman Empire is so successful? well lets start by saying the Roman Empire was successful because of there warfare and their stable structure of politics. The empire was so magnificent because they were so well organized. The Romans were ambitious and hostile in what they craved. It didn’t take so much for them to conquer a lot of territory.

The Roman Army was one of the strongest of all. When the Roman Army conquered a region, they would get the best land and make preparations for the for the Roman settlers to take over an area. Land surveyor would arrive from Rome and divide the land into separate parts. The size of the units depends on how much land there is and the number of people there is needed to defend the territory.

Some of the land was given to the wealthy Romans who had lent money to the government to pay for the military campaign. The rest was usually distributed to the retired members of the army. This strategy had one main purpose, ensure that the territory would be protected by experienced soldiers.

Also, soldiers in the Roman Army were not allowed to marry. Once they became settlers, they often married local women.Their children were often brought up as Romans and therefore increased the number of people loyal to the empire. Their fathers usually trained their son to be a good soldier.

Let it be your work, Roman, to rule the peoples with your power – these shall be your arts: to impose the habit of peace, to spare the conquered and put down the proud. Vigril ,Aeneid.

Not only was the army one of the strongest ways the Roman Empire was so successful but schools were also set up for the young people to be loyal to the Roman Empire. If this process was successful, they were given a chance to become officials administering the province. They would also be granted the right to change their statues.

The Roman Empire was very smart in the way they would handle their policies and on who was given the right to make choices. Whenever the Romans conquered, they brought architecture, their army, their laws, and their tax-gathering mechanism. This why the Romans had more power to conquer another territory because once they conquered a territory, they would gain more knowledge and ways to conquer another territory.

This was indeed an interesting analysis of the Roman empire, and how it rose to power through various means. A fact that really stood out to me was when you shared that soldiers in the Roman Army weren’t allowed to marry until they became settlers once more. Being a part of the Roman Army, I assumed that such a status would allow them privileges (such as to marry whenever they’d like) that regular Roman citizens didn’t posses.
